Mahatma Gandhi strongly believed that, in a kind and peaceful way, you could shake the world with your ideas. And he is the proof of it. Gandhi is today one of the greatest pacifist figures in world history. He inspired other messengers of peace such as Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela. Today, on the day of his 150th anniversary, Gandhi is once again an inspiration to all of us who believe in world peace through non-violence!
In the name of peace
His real name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. However, the world knows him as Mahatma, which means “great soul”, a nickname given to him by a famous Indian poet in honor of his goodness!
Mahatma Gandhi is considered a model for world peace. Born in the Indian city of Porbandar in 1869, Gandhi studied law in London and later moved to South Africa where he fought against discrimination against the Hindu community, thus beginning his work in politics and pacifist civil rights activism!
When he returned to his home country, Gandhi continued his tireless struggle against injustice and for India’s independence, but always from the culture of non-violence, which he called “Satyagraha”. In his struggle he suffered aggressions and was imprisoned on numerous occasions along with many of his followers, however, Gandhi always replied in the same way: with peaceful demonstrations and words of agreement. His way of leading the Hindus in their struggle will always be written into history as an example of the peaceful revolution that would inspire many others around the world!
Gandhi quotes
Throughout his life, Gandhi tried to deal with conflicts such as the independence of India, the conflicts between the different religious communities in his country and even wrote to high officials involved in World War II to ask for their cessation. And during all those years of struggle, Gandhi left us teachings like these!
In a soft way, you can shake the world.
Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.
There are many causes I would die for. There is not a single cause I would kill for.
Be the change you want to see in the world.
The future depends on what you do today.
